Also known as El Matorral Airport, Fuerteventura Airport is the only air facility serving the island of Fuerteventura. The airport was established in the 1960s, and currently handles about five million passengers per year. The popular capital of Puerto del Rosario is about five kilometres from the airport, and recently received a massive refurbishment.

There is one two-storey terminal located at the airport. Shopping is available in the form of book stores, news agencies and fashion stores, mostly open between 07:30 and 22:00. Restaurants can be found in the pre-security and departure zones. Wireless internet is also offered throughout the two terminals.

The airport is close to the southern beaches of Fuerteventura, where wind surfing and other sports dominate the sand. El Cotillo is a beautiful little fishing village that boasts a tremendous beach. Best Time To Visit

During the summer months of May, June and July the island receives most of its visitors. However, with temperatures averaging around 24°C for the entire year, tourists will find any time of the year delightful in Fuerteventura. The coolest months (January and February) only drop down to about 22°C on average and a lack of crowds make this an attractive time for a trip.
