Airport Facilities
Terminal 1 handles most flights and has the most comprehensive facilities, including the SkyCom Business Centre. Terminal 2 is also well endowed and open 24 hours, and both terminals have ATMs, currency exchange machines, cafés, restaurants and bars, and duty-free shops. There is also on-site parking for thousands of vehicles.
Car Hire Geneva Airport
You can pick up cars from either the French or Swiss sectors of the airport, with around a dozen companies represented, including Avis, Holiday Auto and Sixt. Simply book online and pick up the keys on arrival. It is best to pick up a vehicle on the Swiss side if you plan on driving in Switzerland and on the French side if you intend to visit mostly French destinations.
Driving
France and Switzerland have some of the best roads in Europe, with high quality, well-lit surfaces, so be sure to compare car hire before arriving to secure a vehicle. Visitors should avoid driving in the old town, especially as it is best explored on foot. It is necessary to use tyre chains in the mountains in winter, so book with us and we’ll offer you snow chains as an optional extra.
Things To See and Do
Once you have seen the Jet d’Eau fountain, the English Garden, the Flower Clock and the Pont du Mont Blanc bridge on foot, head out of town, especially if you booked car rental at Geneva Airport. You can drive around Lake Geneva and see Chillon Castle and nearby Montreux. House Mountain (Mont Saleve) is just a few minutes’ drive south, while famous ski resorts including Chamonix are only an hour’s drive away.
Best Time To Visit
Despite its altitude, Geneva has a mild climate which is tempered by the lake. Summers can be surprisingly warm, with average temperatures of 19°C, and this is the best time for sightseeing and hiking. Spring and autumn are also mild, with temperatures of around 13°C, while the mercury hits freezing in winter, when it is often rainy. Ski season is November to March.
