Cyprus

Cyprus

Cyprus is one of the Mediterranean’s hottest destinations, literally. Noted for its buzzing beach resorts, ancient sights, and mountains, this dazzling island is divided into Turkish and Greek halves. Compare car hire so that you can fully explore this destination’s rich culture.

Transport

Transport

Larnaca International Airport is the main entry point, serving the town and resort of the same name on the Greek (southern) side. Ercan Airport, on the Turkish side, gets fewer visitors while travel by ferry is more of a novelty. Most people drive between the island’s major locations since buses are infrequent and there are no trains.

Car Hire Cyprus

Car Rental

You can pre-book vehicles for pick up at Larnaca Airport, Ayia Napa, Protaras, and Limassol, among other Cyprus destinations. Budget, Thrifty, Europcar and Hertz are all represented, along with local Cypriot firms. Ayia Napa is 45 minutes’ drive to the east of Larnaca International Airport with car hire in Cyprus and Limassol an hour’s drive west.

Driving

Driving

Driving is on the left in Cyprus and the roads are of mixed quality. The main highway between Paralimni and Paphos is in surprisingly good condition and has up to six lanes in places, but country roads are often lacking. Bends are sharp, particularly in the Trodos Mountains, which should only be driven in daylight.

Things To See and Do

What to See and Do

Cyprus is quite large – it is the third largest island in the Mediterranean – so there is plenty of driving to be enjoyed here. Tourists enjoy visiting the beaches on the south coast, trekking the rugged north coast, and seeing the monuments and landmarks of Nicosia. For a real adventure with car rental in Cyprus, take a drive to the lace village of Lefkara in the Trodos Mountains.

Best Time To Visit

Best Time to Visit

Cyprus is hot, with average temperatures of over 30°C in summer (late June to early September) and maximums in the 40s (°C). May to June and September to October are nice for sightseeing, with temperatures in the 20s (°C), while winters are mild. Popular summer events include the Limassol Beer Festival (July), the Limassol Wine Festival (August) and the Ayia Napa International Festival (September).
