Lanzarote Airport
Commonly known as Arrecife Airport, Lanzarote Airport is the gateway to the Canary island of Lanzarote. Located just a few kilometres from Arrecife, it is served by both charter and scheduled flights from European cities and has a passenger throughput of five to six million a year. From the airport, tourists can reach the nearby beach resorts with car rental from Lanzarote Airport.
Airport Facilities
The single-terminal airport has a money changer and ATMs, but it is best to withdraw cash at the resort as the airport’s ATMs have heavy surcharges. Lanzarote Airport has shopping, limited dining options, and parking. Most people don’t linger longer than necessary.
Car Hire Lanzarote Airport
Having a car is a must as public transport here is unreliable. Vehicles are well priced, especially when booked online in advance, and there are several suppliers operating desks in the airport to choose from. Providers include: Avis, Hertz, Autos Reisen, Cabrera Medina, and Felycar.
Driving
Lanzarote is quite large and the roads are in good shape, but beware of mountain roads in the centre and winding coastal roads in the west. It also gets very windy in the south, so hiring a car would be preferable over hiring a scooter. Driving in and around the tourist resorts is straightforward.
Things To See and Do
Puerto del Carmen, situated close to the airport, is one of the main beach resorts. But be sure to check out the resorts of the south, such as Playa Blanca. The more rugged west coast has some pleasant roads to drive with El Golfo being a popular stop. In the middle of Lanzarote are cute villages and some good places to go hiking.
Best Time To Visit
Expect warm days and nights, and low rainfall year-round. April to November is the best time to visit, with average temperatures of 29°C in August (20°C by night). Even April and October have daily averages of 24°C, with 20°C common in winter. Rain is rarely an issue.
