There have been reports for some time stating that China would not be taking part in the European Union’s emission scheme. Now it appears that these reports were correct. On Monday, China made it very clear that it has banned its airlines from taking part in the European Emissions Trading Scheme.

Unfortunately, for the European Union, this comes just a week before a summit. At this summit, the European Union was hoping to seek Chin’s help in easing its own debt. However, with how upset China is over the emissions scheme, it is very unlikely that the country is going to want to help.

For those who do not know, this scheme sees every flight which comes in or out of European airspace charged for the carbon emissions that is used. Countries like China, the United States, and India have been against this scheme. Mostly, they have been against the scheme because they believe that it’s unfair. After all, an airline is charged emissions permits for the full flight, even if most of that journey does not take place over European airspace.

Now, Chinese and European Union leaders will find themselves at a summit in Beijing. During this summit, the European Union is hoping that China will be willing to dip into its “extremely huge:” foreign exchange reserves.

Currently, China has denounced the European law, and completely prohibited all airlines from using it as a reason to raise fares or fees. In fact, China said they still believe this new scheme completely violates international rules. The European Union hopes to use negotiations to work through this problem.

According to new reports, London Underground staff have recently rejected a £500 Olympics bonus. The Rail, Maritime and Transport union, which actually represents thousands of tube workers, said that the extra pay for working during the games is not enough. They went on to say that this offer actually comes with a lot of strings attached.

As most would expect, there will be a huge surge of passengers traveling through Britain during this period. It is this high demand that has caused union bosses to demand more pay for workers who are scheduled to work during the games.

However, some had assumed that London Underground workers would accept the offer, so what gives? Well, it is worth noting that this rejection comes after the Rail, Maritime and Transport union was able to get a deal for 550 Docklands Light Railway staff to get £2,500 to work during the Olympic games. It is very possible that London Underground workers want a similar deal.

Bob Crow, who is the Rail, Maritime and Transport general secretary, said that they will meet with London Underground again to press their case for a flat-rate payment for all workers who work during the games. Some serious deals have been made with Network Rail, London Overground, and Docklands Light Railway. Now, the union expects the same from London Underground.

Peter Hendy, who is the London Transport Commissioner, said that he is not concerned about the latest breakdown of pay negotiations with the union. He said that they will get an agreement with the union, and it will be something that their staff can be proud of.

People who fly in and out of the United States no longer have to worry about airlines trying to hide fees from them any longer. This is because the US government’s transparency rule is now in full swing. This is a rule that will keep airlines from being able to hide fees when advertising, thus making them “transparent.”

The United States Department of Transportation said that this new rule will eliminate unexpected baggage costs and hidden fees in advertised fares. All of these fees will now have to be clearly marked on all ads so consumers can see what the tickets will really cost them.

Christopher Elliot, who is the co-founder of the Consumer Travel Alliance, said that all the government is saying to airlines is to be honest. No more trying to hide the actual cost of a ticket by tucking those fees where no one can see them. Airlines have been cagey about their disclosure for years, but it now will come to an end. This is a very welcome move.

This is just one of the steps the Department of Transportation is taking to protect airline passengers. Some may remember, back in 2010, the government imposed a huge penalty on airlines who left passengers stranded on airport tarmacs for more than three hours. Once again, this was all done to safeguard passengers from airlines that may try to “bully” them. One official said that someone has to stand up for passengers. The government cannot sit by and let airlines treat passengers like dirt. These new rules will help that.

Every person and company is celebrating the London Olympic Games in their own way. For British Airways, they want to celebrate these games by painting doves on their planes. The airline said that both long and short-haul planes would get these Olympic Games makeovers.

Reports show that it is design tutor Pascal Anson who has won the right to create this new look for the airline. He was able to beat out literally hundreds of other people who were fighting for the job. Mr. Anson, who is 38-years old, will be working on his design under the guidance of Tracey Emin.

However, there is just one question that everyone always has for Mr. Anson: How did you come up with the idea to paint doves on the side of planes? Well, the painter said that he was inspired one day by looking up at an aircraft and wondering whether it was a “bird or a plane.” From there, his idea just started to develop.

He went on to say, in greater detail, that he started researching birds after he had that breakthrough. From there, he released that his bird of choice would have to be the dove. Not only is this bird a symbol of peace and social unity for all, but they have also been used in previous Olympic Games ceremonies. This includes the last London Games of 1948.

Tracy Emin said that it would have been easy to put a motif or a pattern on the side of the plane. However, Mr. Anson design takes it to another level altogether.

It seems just recently that Prime Minister David Cameron and Opposition leader Ed Miliband got into a slight battle over rail fares recently. A lot of this has to do with the fare hikes that will be implemented at the first of this year. The average increase for all tickets is going to be 5.9 percent, and this does include unregulated fares. However, consumer watchdog Passenger Focus says that the train operators have hiked fare prices up almost 11 percent.

This row started when Miliband accused the government of not protecting commuters from being ripped off by rising prices. He went on to claim that the coalition scrapped a Labour initiative that stopped some train companies from increasing ticket prices by significantly more than the inflation prices.

Mr. Miliband went on to slam Cameron for allowing train operators to do this again. He said that this was the wrong decision, and it’s the reason why rail firms can now rig their fares. The decision has put an additional £300 on some season passes. He went on to challenge the prime minister to straighten out his mistake and stand up to the train companies. Mr. Miliband wants to see a better deal for passengers.

The Association of Train Operating Companies said that the average rail fare rise for season passes has been set by the government since 2004. A spokesman went on to say that train operators are subject to strict regulations when they set fares. These rules have been rigorously enforced by the previous and current governments.

It now seems that Transport for London has assured that repairs on the Hammersmith flyover will be finished in time for the 2012 Summer Olympic games. It has been announced that this section of the A4 will have to stay closed to traffic for at least another week at minimum. This will be done so that they can assess the extent of structural problems. The mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said that the flyover will not be closed any longer than what it has to be.

For the people who don’t remember, or did not know, the Hammersmith flyover was shut down on December 23. This was because of water damage that weakened and corroded the cables that strengthen the bridge. Transport for London’s director of surface transport, Leon Daniels, said that he has been inside the flyover and seen the unique issues that they face. Safety has to be their top priority. They have not taken the decision to shut down the flyover lightly.

Due to this road being shut down, commuters have faced a ton of disruptions. Now, motorists have been forced to take detours to cut out this section of road. 80 engineers are currently inspecting the extent of the damage and carrying out strengthening work on the structure. They know that it is important for this road to reopen quickly, but they also know that it has to be done right. After all, this is a key section of road that takes traffic to and from the British capital’s Heathrow hub.

According to new reports, it has never been safer to fly in America. In fact, 2011 proved to be a great year for most carriers, as far as safety goes. There were only 153 fatalities in the last ten years. This actually equals just two deaths for every 100 million commercial passengers. Just ten years before this, passengers were ten times as likely to die while flying.

However, according to new statistics, travelers are safer flying than they are driving to their destination. When looking at statistics, people can see that there are over 30,000 car crash deaths every year. This is eight times as much as plane crashes. Former Boeing safety engineer Todd Curtis said that plane crashes are just less common now than they used to be.

This improvement in safety came during a time when the industry was going through a hard financial period. Maybe carriers wanted people to feel safe when flying. After all, they wanted to do all they could to help increase people’s odds of flying.

Carriers have been doing things like getting rid of in-flight meals and adding charges for checked bags. Either way, safety continues to be a top priority. Of course, there are still some areas of the world that could improve their safety record. Places like Russia, Somalia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo have especially high fatal crash rates. Russia has had many crashes over the last year, while Africa had 14% of worldwide fatal crashes, even though it only accounts for 3% of air traffic. These kinds of numbers make some people feel uncomfortable when flying in these areas.

It now appears that a walkout by striking Tube drivers has caused some very bad travel misery on Boxing Day. On the London Underground, some key lines were knocked out of operation because of this strike.

Reports go on to show that drivers from the Aslef union staged a big 24-hour walkout. They were apparently demanding extra pay for working on this public holiday. Transport for London said that more services operated than expected. However, there was still significant disruption. The services on the Circle line were suspended due to the strike. Most other lines were running, but on a reduced service.

During the strike, there was no central London service on the District, Northern, Piccadilly, Metropolitan, Hammersmith and City and Jubilee lines. All those lines ran special services outside central London.

Mick Whelan, who is the general secretary of Aslef, said that the increased demand for Tube drivers on Boxing Day over the years meant that drivers were not getting quality time with their families. If they cannot spend time with their families, like other people can, they should be paid extra. It is as simple as that. People are upset with the strikes, but they would have been even more upset if they were the ones that had to work on Boxing Day.

Mick went on to tell BBC Radio that his team has been in there for the best part of two years. They have offered various solutions that would underwrite or partially underwrite what they are seeking to achieve. The first dispute almost two years ago was about quality time off.

Bargain hunters managed to reach shops in the West End of London yesterday, despite a strike that saw London Underground services drastically reduced. Services on the Central and Circle lines were suspended, while other routes only had partial services in operation.

People heading for the annual Boxing Day sales took taxis and buses to locations close to the main thoroughfares of Oxford Street and Regent Street. People were also able to get close to central London by taking Tube trains as far as they could and then resorting to alternate travel and, in some cases, walking.

A spokesperson at Selfridges’ flagship store on Oxford Street said that retail sales, when combined with its Manchester and Birmingham outlets, had surpassed records set on Boxing Day in 2009 by a massive 15 per cent. Staff at the store said jewellery and fashion accessories had sold like hotcakes.

At smaller shops and boutiques in the district, sales staff said household electrical products and brand name clothing and accessories had sold quickly. In the northern suburbs of the capital, stores at Brent Cross Shopping Centre reported record Boxing Day receipts. The 8,000 vehicle car park at the centre seemed full.

London Underground train drivers who belong to the union ASLEF staged the 24-hour walkout over Boxing Day work requirements. London Underground says that, under the terms of an agreement reached 15 years ago, the holiday is part of the drivers’ regular working rosters and they are already paid for working it.

ASLEF says the agreement is outdated as there are now many more Tube trains on Boxing Day. The union wants drivers to be paid premium rates and receive time off in lieu if they work the holiday.

It has now been announced that a young couple was found dead under a mound of coal after train hopping across the United States. The two people were Christopher Artes and Medeana Hendershot, age 22 and 25. Apparently, these two liked to illegally hop freight trains and travel around the nation. They did this without any kind of set plan. In fact, most of the time the two never knew where they were going.

Reports show that the couple had been all over the United States recently. In fact, during the last few months of their lives, they were seen traveling through Illinois, Georgia and even Tennessee. Apparently, the two were trying to make their way down to Florida to find some warmer weather.

It is not known when the two died, but they do know that they were killed over the weekend. Apparently, it happened when their train stopped at a power plant in Florida. During this time, the rail cars open from the bottom when they arrive. This way, they can release their cargo from several stories high into a waiting truck. Officials are not sure if the couple was sitting on top of the coal when the second load dropped. It is possible that they were in a rail car that dropped its load. They do know that Artes died from suffocation, which means that he was probably buried alive. Hendershot died from blunt force trauma to her mid-section. This was likely caused by the falling coal.
