A British man who went missing on Christmas Day in the French Alps is thought to have been killed by an avalanche. A body, believed to be that of the 42-year-old Nigel Jackson, was found on Boxing Day between to two marked out pistes. Police believe that the man was caught out by a small avalanche that took him unaware.

Police reports said that they had found the body of a male on Boxing Day close to the resort of Le Tour. The weather in the region was particularly bad on Christmas Day with poor visibility and heavy snow storms. The severe weather factors are thought to have contributed to the avalanche that led to Mr Jackson’s death.

Mr Jackson, his girlfriend and two other friends are thought to have wanted to ski on Christmas Day, even though the weather was bad. Ski rescue teams and police had been searching for almost a day with a helicopter, but could not find the man. His parents are thought to have flown out to the French resort to meet with police and arrange to have his body returned to the UK.

In Switzerland the search for a 23-year-old, who went missing walking 200 yards from a hotel to his family’s place in Wengen, has turned up a body. Myles Robinson has been missing for a week now and his family have said it was totally out of character for him to just walk off. The 6ft5 grad student had spent the evening in a local bar with friends drinking beer and playing pool. He then escorted a family friend back to her hotel, before he was meant to walk the 200 yards home. Police in the car-less resort have said that an identification will take place on Tuesday morning.
