BMW and Sixt Extend Car Sharing Partnership

Reports have just recently come out that show a new car sharing scheme has been launched between BMW and Sixt. This new partnership could see their current car sharing scheme be expanded from Munich to other European destinations, which would include the UK.

Currently there are 300 BMW 1 Series cars available to hire for just 25p per minute in Munich. However, this is a scheme now that both Sixt and BMW would like to see expanded on. The current plan sees cars parked at different locations all around Munich. Anyone who registers for the scheme is able to gain keyless access to the cars by a mobile phone app. The app also helps lead the user to the nearest car. Once a personal pin number is entered into the car’s computer system, a credit card charge will be automatically received for the amount of time that the car is in use.

The system seems to work really good for certain people. In fact, there are no more charges, besides the per minute charge, as long as the car is left within certain city limits. Teams, of course, track the car by satellites in order to keep the gas tank full at all times. Over the past few months, this kind of car hire system has grown very popular.

BMW marketer Tony Douglas said that Sixt takes care of the customer database and the logistics. BMW provides the quality cars. Now the goal is to roll this system out in Berlin and other cities in Europe. Hopefully people will see this system coming to London, Manchester and Birmingham.
