British Airways Now May Face Christmas Strike
Justin HarperReports are suggesting that British Airways passengers may now have to face a Christmas strike. This news comes in as the Unite union looks to escalate the long running cabin crew dispute. However, a strike over the Christmas holiday would not be viewed nicely by the public. In fact, unions are slowly losing public support due to how many strikes have been called into action, and the holiday in which the strikes are called on.
A row over allegations of bullying during the 22 days of strikes that were seen earlier this year is now threatening to lead to yet more strikes. The union says that, unless talks start to move forward, they have no choice but to announce yet more strikes.
Rumors say that almost 80 cabin crew members at British Airways have been suspended due to bad behavior during past strikes. 13 other cabin crew members have been let go for the same reason. The disciplinary action and the withdrawal of the travel perks from all cabin crew members that took part in the strikes has been a sore spot among the union.
Tony Woodley, when emailing the 12,000 members of the Unite union, said a fresh strike ballot was now an option. Mr Woodley is understood to be a little reluctant to call for another ballot, but he is facing pressure to do so from the cabin crew.
A decision on what to do next could be made as soon as next Monday. This is when cabin crew members will be holding their meeting on what to do next. However, British Airways has said before that it is standing firmly behind its own choices.
