British Tourists Head to Harry Potter Theme Park in Florida

It now seems that many Brits have been setting their sites on Florida in the United States as one of their top overseas destinations. This is due to the fact that Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida just opened up a Harry Potter theme park.

The visitor numbers to the United States, the UK’s sixth favorite overseas holiday spot, dropped by four million last year. Much of this had to do with the credit crunch and the value of the pound collapsing against the American dollar.

Despite this, it seems that this new Harry Potter theme park is due to change these things around. In fact, many places are already saying that summer bookings have been driven up. Trevor Davis, from Co-operative Travel, said that family bookings are up as much as seven percent when compared to last year.

Davis went on to say that they are seeing a lot of this increase in Florida, which more than likely has a lot to do with the opening of the Harry Potter theme park. Of course, the better exchange rate is also helping families, who are looking for more value for their pound, find greater value against the relatively weak dollar. In fact, this gives UK holidaymakers 15 percent more spending power when they visit the United States.

The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter, which cost around £125 million to complete, is bout 20 acres big. The park includes a full size Hogwarts Castle. The park itself was opened by Universal Studios, as talked about earlier, but it was also opened in cooperation with Warner Bros.
