Europcar to Start Renting Out General Motors’ Opel-Vauxhall Ampera

It now appears that Europcar is going to continue down the road of offering green cars for rent. This news is great for business and pleasure travelers who want to do their part in lowering their own carbon footprint.

This time it seems that Europcar is going to offer General Motor’s Opel-Vauxhall Ampera. This is an electric model car that will be made available to rent starting later this year. This is all part of Europcar’s plan to gain a big chunk of the green energy car hire marketplace.

This is a big deal for the United States carmaker and Europcar, which is the largest car rental company in all of Europe. These two groups said that they are happy to be working together to offer the very first Ampera cars in Germany in November. However, these cars will later be rolled out to places like Belgium and the Netherlands.

Although it is hitting some areas of Europe this year, not every country will see the car as an option to rent. In fact, places like France, Spain, Portugal and even Italy will not be able to rent this car from Europcar until early 2012.

Overall, electric cars are starting to become very popular. In fact, General Motors said that they sold 2,745 Chevy Volts during the first half of this year. Nissan was able to sell about 4,000 Leaf cars. This alone shows that more and more people are becoming interested in electric cars. As far as Europe goes, most carmakers expect that the UK will have the biggest market for electric cars.
