It now seems that the bosses over at Network Rail have finally agreed to turn down their very controversial six-figure bonuses. As some may remember, after these huge bonuses were announced, a big flight broke out regarding it. On top of this, the huge bonuses sparked public anger. Mostly, this was because the company had recently pleaded guilty to safety breaches in relation to a level crossing. This was the same crossing where two teenage girls were hit and killed by a train.

Either way, chief executive David Higgins has now said this week that he will pass on his bonus package worth £340,000. Instead, he said that he would be giving this money to a rail safety charity. He feels this is the right thing to do considering the situation.

This new comes just after the Transport Secretary Justine Greening threatened to vote against these bonuses. Justine Greening went on to say that this recent announcement from David Higgins is very welcome and sensible. After all, the package that was announced did very little to reflect the need for restraint.

For those that do not know, Sir Higgins joined Network Rail just last year. Higgins, along with six other directors, were recently eligible to get up to 60 percent of their annual salary in a one-off performance bonus. Not only that, but they could also get a longer-term bonus up to 500 percent after five years if certain goals were met. The chief executive did say that this decision was made before the current dispute over the bonus payments even started.

New reports now show that a deal has been struck between Europcar and leading IT service firm Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). These same reports show that this is a multi-year deal that is worth millions. The IT subsidiary of Europe’s car rental leader, Europcar Information Services, chose TCS to manage the development of IT Services for its French operations.

Kumar Narayana, who is the TCS France director and country head, said that this new deal with Europcar car is all part of the company’s development strategy for relationships with industry-leading businesses in France. Overall, it helps to renew TCS’ strategic dedication to the region and the ability to create operating models for the unique needs of their French consumers.

Pascal Vallerent, who is the Europcar Information Services skill center director, said that the objective of this deal was to continue improving the company’s standardized and structured development process. In the end, the company is looking for a partner who has the highest standard in quality and has the ability to demonstrate flexibility. TCS was able to score high on both of these levels. This is why Europcar chose TCS as its IT service provider.

In other Europcar news, the company has recently become the first car rental firm in the UK to offer car and van hire by the hour. This will help give individuals and corporate clients more flexibility when choosing a rental. It should also help consumers save money when compared to daily car hire prices.

There have been reports for some time stating that China would not be taking part in the European Union’s emission scheme. Now it appears that these reports were correct. On Monday, China made it very clear that it has banned its airlines from taking part in the European Emissions Trading Scheme.

Unfortunately, for the European Union, this comes just a week before a summit. At this summit, the European Union was hoping to seek Chin’s help in easing its own debt. However, with how upset China is over the emissions scheme, it is very unlikely that the country is going to want to help.

For those who do not know, this scheme sees every flight which comes in or out of European airspace charged for the carbon emissions that is used. Countries like China, the United States, and India have been against this scheme. Mostly, they have been against the scheme because they believe that it’s unfair. After all, an airline is charged emissions permits for the full flight, even if most of that journey does not take place over European airspace.

Now, Chinese and European Union leaders will find themselves at a summit in Beijing. During this summit, the European Union is hoping that China will be willing to dip into its “extremely huge:” foreign exchange reserves.

Currently, China has denounced the European law, and completely prohibited all airlines from using it as a reason to raise fares or fees. In fact, China said they still believe this new scheme completely violates international rules. The European Union hopes to use negotiations to work through this problem.

It now seems that the UK government is attacking Network Rail’s plan to give out very lucrative bonuses. On top of all of this, the UK transport minister has already told other MPs that the government’s ability to prevent these kinds of bonuses is very limited at best.

This news comes on the heels of an announcement by Network Rail that its chief executive, Sir David Higgins, is to receive a £340,000 bonus. Of course, this is a bonus that he is under extreme pressure to reject. Now, the former Labour transport minister Tom Harris is in on the action. Mr. Harris has tabled a motion for Mr. Higgins to turn down this huge payment.

Network Rail did go on to confirm that a meeting would be held later this month. During this meeting, they will decide on the structure of the bonus scheme. Of course, Mr. Harris is not just worried about the huge payment going to the chief executive. He is also very keen on the idea of rejecting bonuses for other directors. These bonuses could all add up to around £200,000.

Many feel that Sir David does not need this bonus. After all, it is said that his annual salary is already at £560,000. Other directors at Network Rail are not doing to bad for themselves either. Reports show that some other directors make around £338,000 a year.

Industry experts have pointed out that they do not think that Network Rail directors need a bonus this year. After all, this talk of “huge bonuses” comes just after Network Rail admitted health and safety breaches over the death of two teenage girls.

According to new reports, Egyptian authorities have banned three American democracy advocates from leaving the country. Right now, the three people are seeking refuge at the Cairo-based US Embassy.

This report comes in as tension between the US and Egypt reach a boiling point over an investigation into foreign-funded agencies. Egyptian authorities have taken an odd step in the middle of a dispute about US-funded groups who promote democracy and human rights in the country.

The generals who are now in power in Egypt have accused foreign entities of being reasonable for protests against their rule. Not only that, but they are depicting demonstrators as receiving foreign money in a huge plot to ruin the nation’s stability.

The US government is trying to stay cool on the matter. In fact, officials at the White House said that they are talking to the Egyptian military authorities on this matter. They are working to try to resolve the matter as fast as possible.

Of course, it is not just these three Americans who are being barred from leaving. Reports show that there are at least three others and four Europeans. It is not yet known when or if these people are going to be allowed to leave anytime soon.

The investigation from the Egyptian authorities has resulted in raids of ten international organizations. The raids have been defended as part of a legitimate probe into the work and funding of the demonstrators. Some people are worried that the Egyptian authorities might be getting out of hand.

For the people who do not know, Amadeus just so happens to be one of the aviation industry’s main computer networks. So, when this system goes down, it affects a lot of people. Unfortunately, for thousands of airline passengers, this is just what happened. Apparently, when the system went down, passengers were unable to check in online, buy plane tickets, or even reserve their seats.

The computer crash happened just this past Monday. All the airlines that use some kind of alternative system experienced no kind of disruption at all. In fact, they were able to operate normally. It was all the airlines that use this system that suffered delays.

The breakdown of the Amadeus system only lasted about three hours. However, during this time it was able to affect passengers, airlines, and even travel agents. Reports show that there are a number of airlines that actually suffered delays because of this computer crash. This includes British Airways, Qantas, Cathay Pacific, and Iberia. Of course, these are all members of the Oneworld alliance.

Some of the biggest problems happened at check-in desks where airlines have cut back on staff. Here, the staff members who were working had to manually input passenger details rather than just scan a passport. This of course took a lot more time.

There is a gold lining to this problem. Luckily, for the airline industry, the crash happened during one of the quietest parts of the year for the airline industry. Had this happened during a Bank Holiday, things could have gotten ugly real quick.

According to new reports, London Underground staff have recently rejected a £500 Olympics bonus. The Rail, Maritime and Transport union, which actually represents thousands of tube workers, said that the extra pay for working during the games is not enough. They went on to say that this offer actually comes with a lot of strings attached.

As most would expect, there will be a huge surge of passengers traveling through Britain during this period. It is this high demand that has caused union bosses to demand more pay for workers who are scheduled to work during the games.

However, some had assumed that London Underground workers would accept the offer, so what gives? Well, it is worth noting that this rejection comes after the Rail, Maritime and Transport union was able to get a deal for 550 Docklands Light Railway staff to get £2,500 to work during the Olympic games. It is very possible that London Underground workers want a similar deal.

Bob Crow, who is the Rail, Maritime and Transport general secretary, said that they will meet with London Underground again to press their case for a flat-rate payment for all workers who work during the games. Some serious deals have been made with Network Rail, London Overground, and Docklands Light Railway. Now, the union expects the same from London Underground.

Peter Hendy, who is the London Transport Commissioner, said that he is not concerned about the latest breakdown of pay negotiations with the union. He said that they will get an agreement with the union, and it will be something that their staff can be proud of.

During a time when certain airlines are struggling to make ends meet, should executives be getting huge bonuses to line their pockets? Well, the founder of easyJet Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou does not think so. In fact, he has called out the airline to end these “fat cat bonuses.”

Sir Stelios, whose family actually owns close to 38 percent of the airline, has announced that he will table a motion at the annual meeting next month to block a proposed pay deal that would see certain executives paid huge bonuses.

Of course, new reports are suggesting that the board of easyJet will not play victim to Sir Stelios anymore. In fact, there are rumors that suggest the board could resign in a huge mass if shareholders agree to this new deal.

On that same note, Sir Stelios is not worried about what the board will do. In fact, the founder said that the “gravy train” is coming to an end. He then said that these people are free to resign at anytime. However, they should keep in mind that they are very easily replaced with talented executives whose bonuses will cost half as much. It would be a win-win for the airline.

The deal that Sir Stelios is fighting is a big one. Apparently, a new pay deal could see some 10 senior executives given £8 million worth of shares in three years if certain targets are met. This is money that Sir Stelios believes could be better used elsewhere in the company.

When a person is a passenger in a car, they have the freedom to do what they want. They can read books, eat, or a number of other activities that the driver cannot do. What if the driver was able to engage in these activities as well? That could never happen, because it’s dangerous…or could it?

According to new reports, the very first field test of the Safe Road Trains for the Environment (called SARTRE for short) project went off without any problems. The groups behind the project say that it can help improve how roads are used and even reduce the impact vehicles have on the environment.

This new project is being funded by the European Commission under the Framework 7 scheme. The whole aim is to develop technologies that will allow cars to operate on normal public highways with substantial benefits to not only comfort and safety, but the environment as well.

SARTRE works by making platoons, or road trains. Apparently, this will be done with a train of cars following a lead car, which will be operated by a professional driver. This one driver will take responsibility for the whole road train.

Cars in the road train will be able to enter a “semi-auto” control mode. This allows the motorists following the lead vehicle to watch movies, read books, talk or even text while the lead driver takes care of the driving.

The project is made possible due to a consumer vehicle, which can actually be driven independently without any kind of input from the person behind the wheel. This is because the car can rely on signals transmitted from the lead car, which is operated by the professional driver.

Local reports from Antigua now show that a British tourist has been found dead. Apparently, this woman and mother-of-two had been in the area to celebrate her father’s wedding. Local police believe that the woman may have drowned just hours after arriving.

The tourist who was found dead was Nicola Raybone from Lythma, Lancashire. She was only 33 years of age. Apparently, the woman was staying at an all-inclusive hotel with her friends. When her friends went out to dinner, she opted to stay behind.

Nicola was last seen alive at the bar of the hotel. Apparently, at some point, she left the bar to go down to the beach to watch the sunset. After her friends returned from dinner, they became worried when they could not find her. At this point, they alerted the hotel’s security staff and also the police.

A search for Nicola went on for almost an hour before her body was found on the beach. Police say, when her body was found, she was wearing wet clothes. This has led many to believe that she somehow fell into the water and drown.

Despite this, police in Antigua are still not sure what the cause of death was. There was no sign of injury or indication of violence. This is why it is being labeled as an accident. However, police are asking people with any information to please come forward. Authorities find it hard to believe that no one saw her on the beach at the time of her death, as they believe it happened around 6pm or 7pm. Typically, the beach is still full of people at this time.
