FlightCar Service being Brought to Cincinnati, Ohio
Justin HarperTravelers in Cincinnati, Ohio are about to have access to a new peer-to-peer car hire service. Apparently, car rental service FlightCar is being launched in this city in the next few months. The whole point of this car hire service is to allow car owners to rent their own vehicles to incoming travelers. In turn, this gives new travelers to the city a much cheaper car hire experience when compared to traditional means.
The chief executive of FlightCar, Rujul Zaparde, said he came up with this idea after reading an article about the “sharing economy”. He learned that people can make extra money by offering others the chance to rent the things that they own. When people travel overseas, they are paying the airport just to let their car sit there. Why not get paid by others who need to use a car?
When using FlightCar, vehicle owners are allowed to post the dates that they will be traveling, information about their car, and the minimum and maximum amount of compensation they are looking for. Then people who are arriving at the same airport will be able to request to hire these cars.
FlightCar does background checks on all the people who are renting cars. Once a person has been approved, the owner can then choose to accept the traveler’s offer or decline it. To top it all off, there is a $1 million insurance policy on all the cars in the event that something does happen.
