Man dies from fall off hotel balcony
Simon BracknellA man from Bognor Regis has died after a fall from a fourth floor hotel balcony in the early hours of Sunday morning. The 43-year-old scaffolder was staying at the Sandbanks Hotel in Poole when the accident happened at the weekend.
Police were called shortly after 03:00 when they had received reports that a man had fallen while trying to climb onto a balcony. Dorset Police have said that they are not treating the incident as suspicious and believe it was just a tragic accident that occurred, but were still making enquiries as to the cause of the accident.
The coroner’s office in Bournemouth was conducting the inquiry into the unfortunate death of Mr Christopher Ian Riley at the Banks Road accommodation and adjourned the case until more information could be sort.
A spokesperson from the hotel has said they send their condolences to the family and friends of Mr Riley from all the staff and management of the hotel after such a tragic accident, but they would not comment further on the incident citing on an ongoing police investigation.
Official from the environmental protection unit in Poole are also investigating the matter themselves, added a spokesman for the Borough of Poole.
