New Bill to Stop The Renting of Cars That Have Been Recalled

If people have been renting cars over the past few years, they may have been taking a risk without knowing it. That is because some rental car companies do not pull recalled cars as soon as they get the notice from the automakers.

In fact, this has become a real issues ever since two young sisters died in a recalled car rented through Enterprise Rent-A-Car. Although Enterprise Rent-A-Car was the company that got hit the hardest from this, it is not the only company that this bill well effect. In fact, this bill is going to effect all rental car companies in the United States.

This bill was proposed by New York Senator Charles Schumer on Wednesday. Pretty much the bill will ban car hire firms from renting out cars that have been recalled. They will not be able to put these cars back into action until they have been fixed.

When the senator was talking about the bill, he did talk about the two young sisters that were killed in a recalled car after renting it from Enterprise Rent-A-Car. He said that they had rented a PT Cruiser in 2004. The problem is the girls were able to rent this car a whole month after it had been recalled.

The car had been recalled over a possible leak of the automatic steering fluid. This was a big problem because the leak had the ability to possibly cause a fire. When the girls’ rental car crossed into oncoming traffic and got hit by a tractor-trailer, head on, the girls died and the car was completely burned.

It was later said that the girls were driving the car and lost control over it. It is believed that they lost control over the car due to the leak of the steering fluid. The parents of the two girls were awarded with $15 million.
