Nigeria Suspends Dana Airlines License
Simon BracknellAccording to new reports, Nigeria has indefinitely suspended the licence of Dana Airlines. For those that do not remember, this is the same airline that was involved in Sunday’s huge crash in Lagos. As a result of this crash, some 153 people aboard died, and an unknown number of people on the ground were killed as well.
Joe Obi, who is the aviation minister, said that the government has suspended Dana Airlines’ licence as a matter of safety. Now, the government is going to look into the crash. A further judgment on Dana Airlines will be delivered once the investigation is complete.
The plane that crashed was a Boeing MD-83. It went down as it tried to make its approach to Lagos’s Murtala Muhammed International Airport. Reports suggest that the plane went down just about five miles away from the airport.
Just before the crash, the crew had radioed to the traffic control tower that they were having engine problems. However, as of right now, the cause of the crash still remains unclear. Reports do show that the aircraft appeared to have landed on its belly. Furthermore, weather did not play a factor since it was a clear, sunny day. As the plane approached the crash site, it tore through roofs and sheared a mango tree. The plane had been flying from Abuja when it went down.
The cause of this crash is very important. After all, depending on how this investigation turns out, the government will determine if Dana Airlines can get its licence back or not.
