Right now, the economy is really weak. One reason is because there are a ton of people out there looking for jobs. Case in point, recently there were 1200 jobless people who applied for jobs at the new hotel that is opening up in November in Londonderry’s Waterside. The problem is, there were only 60 spots available.
The hotel, which will be run by Premier Inn, said that they received well over 1200 applications for the 60 job spots. Although it is great to have so many different applications to pick through, it said that they cannot help everyone out.
This is actually becoming a growing trend in the UK. In fact, back in July, nearly 2,000 people applied for openings at sofa retailer DFS. However, in this case, there were only 14 openings. This proves that people are applying for every job that comes open.
Premier Inn did say that they were working very closely with the Department of Employment and Learning. They want to do everything they can to help the people who have been out of work the longest. However, they still have to find the right people for the job.
The general manager for the new Premier Inn, Cathy Hopkins, said that they had been blown away by how many applications they have received. The hotel chain remains very committed to staff training and development. The chain believes in hiring people to give them a long-term career opportunity. Thus, Premier Inn is very pleased by the quality of applications that they have received.
