Rental car drivers warned of others with no insurance

The head of motoring at Confused.com has warned Brits about the dangers of driving a car without insurance. Will Thomas said that motorists that step into the driver’s seat without insurance are breaking the law and could end up with fines and/or penalty points on their license. A police spokesperson says that when they find someone with no insurance it does not usually stop there. Often it is discovered that they have no license or other problems like the car has no MOT. According to figures from the Motor Insurers Bureau, these individuals account for about 460 injuries each week.

For every accident of an uninsured driver someone eventually has to pay out for repairs to the cars involved and for personal injury. This amounted to around £400 million last year and the next step for the insurance is to try and reclaim that money back, which end up being through higher insurance premiums for the innocent motorists. As insurance prices rise so does everything else in our everyday life. The roll on effect spreads to everyone, even those that do not own a car. Car hire is another purchase that suffers from high insurance cost with the rental firm passing on the extra cost to the consumer.

Experts have also been warning motorists to be cautious while driving this winter, after the clocks went back last weekend. The nights were already getting darker and the advent that it has been sped up by an hour does not help the motorist. Most accidents occur at night and insurance groups are urging drivers to take refresher courses on driving and make sure they leave plenty of time to get to their destination so they are not in a rush on these closing winter nights.
