UK Bank Holidays to be Hit by Bad Weather and Traffic Jams
Simon BracknellMany people are looking forward to their Bank holidays this year. This has a lot to do with the fact that some people have not been able to take a holiday in a long time due to the bad economy. Well it appears that for many, their last chance to get away before the summer ends could be met with some problems. This is due to the prediction of both bad weather and traffic jams.
Apparently more than half the population, or about 52 percent, is planning a getaway tip, according to a new survey. These people are still planning to get away despite the prediction of some gloomy weather on the way.
In fact, many holidaymakers are going to extreme lengths to try and avoid the predicted traffic jams. This is being done by taking their Friday off of work and starting their vacation early. Others are planning to drive through all hours of the night to try and avoid the traffic.
Either way, millions of Brits are going to face road work, which is going to be one of the major causes of the traffic jams. Also, with strike threats and disruptions taking place at airports, Eurostar and Tube, more people are going to have to take to the road to get to were they need to go. In fact, many train services are going to have to be replaced by bus, which means more vehicles on the road.
Some 30 million Brits are expected to take to the road this coming weekend. Nearly one in five are embarking on a journey that will be over four hours. Many people are going to be driving to hit some of the many music and sporting events that will be going on all over the UK.
