UK Gets Flood Warnings Due to Heavy Rain
Justin HarperVery severe flood warnings have been put into affect for much of the UK. These storms are bad enough to put, not only property, but lives at risk. The warning has been issued by the Environment Agency.
The warnings that are being issued for much of England are the highest level flood warnings that can be issued. The warning applies to an area around Bury Brook, between Kings Ripoton and Ramsey. A spokesman for the Environment Agency said that there are about 99 properties in the area that have the highest level of flood warning. Of course, he did note that this does not mean that 99 properties will be flooded. None may flood, but there is a warning in this area.
People who find themselves in this area, whether resident or tourists, should evacuate. People with homes in this area should find the whereabouts of all family members and pets and move all valuables upstairs.
Although this area will get the worst flooding, there are other flood warnings for other parts of the UK as well. Other flood warnings have been put in affect for Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Buckinghamshire, Essex and Bedfordshire. The North East region has also been warned of flooding in places like North Yorkshire.
Pretty much all other areas of England, except for the North West, are currently subject to flood watches, which means that flooding is still possible. The Thames Barrier will be raised to reduce the risk of flooding to the west of the capital. One spokesman said the action was taken because of the risk of water trying to flow out of London becoming trapped by the high tide and a storm surge from the Channel.
