It seems like well-known budget carrier easyJet has just recently made a deal with the government. Apparently, the airline is agreeing to provide government ministers with cheap travel. Overall, this is a bid by the government to help save some taxpayers money.
The deal itself just recently came into effect. As of right now, the deal only lasts for one year. However, easyJet will now offer flexible fares to government officials, which means they have to pay less for flights. This means that less of taxpayers' money is going towards flying officials around the UK.
The chief executive of easyJet, Carolyn McCall, said that they believe that this new deal will actually help give MPs and their peers easy and affordable travel. Not only that, but it is going to help safeguard the taxpayers' purse.
McCall went on to say that easyJet knows that MPs and government ministers already fly with easyJet. Now, this new deal will just make it easier for them to do so. Not only that, but it will make it more cost-effective than ever before. EasyJet is sure that MPs will now choose to fly with this carrier all across Europe.
It has not been revealed what easyJet gets out of this deal, besides the obvious increase in fliers with MPs choosing easyJet over other carriers. Overall, easyJet may just be doing this because of the positive press it will bring them. It puts them in a better standing with the general public, and that alone may be enough to increase traffic.
