Faro Airport is the main entry point to the stunning Algarve for people from all over Europe and beyond. It is situated just a few kilometres from Faro itself and well within reach of the main resorts on the coast, so great if you decide to book car hire in Faro Airport. The airport handles around six million passengers a year, with Ryanair servicing most flights.

Airport Facilities

There is one terminal at Faro Airport, where you can buy euros at the bureau de change or withdraw them from your account via an ATM. There are many shops, including souvenir and duty-free stores, as well as a food court, a café and a coffee shop. Car parking is available in front of the terminal.

Car Hire Faro Airport

The Algarve stretches for miles and there are resorts all the way along the coast, so it pays to have a car when visiting. Among others, Budget, Hertz, and Rentauto are located in Arrivals and vehicles can be pre-booked online. Faro is just a few kilometres to the east of the airport, though most people head to one of the resorts to the west, with the main one being Albufeira, 40kms away.

Driving

It's best to compare car hire in Faro Airport with us before travelling, as public transport is lacking. The roads are well maintained, though local drivers can be unpredictable, so it is best to avoid driving at night. Driving between resorts such as Albufeira and Lagos is convenient.

Things To See and Do

The main beach resorts to check out, east to west, are Albufeira, Portimao, Lagos and Sagres. These resorts are within a 45 minute drive of each other, while laid-back Tavira, with its quieter beaches, is a nice 30 minute drive to the east of Faro. You can also head inland and check out the villages of Silves and Monchique.

Best Time To Visit

This region of southern Portugal has some of the best weather in the region. It is even nice here in winter (December to February). Faro boasts 300 sunny days a year and average summer temperatures of 28ºC (July and August). Spring and autumn temperatures average in the low 20s (ºC), while winter temperatures hover in the mid-teens. Any time is thus a good time for obtaining car rental in Faro Airport for the duration of your trip to get around.
