Location information for Cardiff

Cardiff may technically be Europe's youngest capital, but the city's history dates back several centuries. This former industrial city now boasts more green space per resident than any other United Kingdom city. The largest of Cardiff's many parks, Bute Park, stands in the city centre as one of Cardiff's major landmarks. When people use car rental in Cardiff they can access Cardiff Bay's beautiful waterfront, spectacular Victorian shopping arcades and no fewer than five historic castles.

Transport

[transport]

Cardiff International Airport, Wales' only airport, is situated in the Vale of Glamorgan less than 20kms southwest of the city. Cardiff also contains 22 rail stations within its city limits and an equally comprehensive bus network that allow visitors to travel as far as the city of Newport. However, car hire in Cardiff remains the only real way to explore the city in complete freedom.

Car Hire Cardiff

People should check online to compare car hire deals at Cardiff International Airport, Cardiff Central railway station and numerous other locations across the Welsh capital before arriving. Although Cardiff has an easily walkable city centre, much of its surrounding Welsh countryside can only be reached by car. The M4 is the main motorway connecting Wales with England across the Severn Bridge.

Driving

It takes about three hours to drive between Cardiff and central London, but drivers planning to arrive across the Severn Bridge should remember the bridge requires a cash toll to cross. The M4 connects Cardiff with the Severn Bridge and the western Wales city of Swansea. Many UK motorists prefer to drive as far as one of Cardiff's many rail stations, then take the train into Cardiff's downtown. However, driving in the heart of Cardiff is fairly easy except during rush hours.

Things To See and Do

Cardiff visitors can cruise along the Glamorgan Heritage Coast 16kms southwest of the city, where drivers will encounter countless towering cliffs over the Bristol channel along this breathtaking road between Ogmore-by-Sea and Llantwit Major. The relaxing country park at Comeston Lakes is another popular Cardiff day trip getaway.

Best Time To Visit

Summer and late spring are Cardiff's busiest tourism seasons, not only because of the warm weather but also because the Cardiff Festival takes place during these pleasant months. Each year about 500,000 people enjoy the Cardiff Festival's live sporting, music, and cultural events between late May and early September. Winter is Cardiff's coldest and rainiest season, not the best time for outdoor excursions.
