Location information for Guernsey

Situated between the coasts of England and France is the beautiful island of Guernsey, with its picturesque blooming landscapes, historic buildings and cobbled streets. It's a relaxed holiday destination that's becoming more and more popular. The capital, Saint Peter Port, has been hailed as one of the prettiest ports in Europe.

Transport

[transport]

Guernsey has no train service, although there are buses available. With such a sparse public transport service, car rental in Guernsey is the best way to explore the islands. As well as giving visitors total freedom over their trip, it provides an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful landscape via the many scenic driving routes. Guernsey on the main island receives flights mainly from the UK and France.

Car Hire Guernsey

With low petrol prices and competitive rates for vehicle hire, car hire in Guernsey is a great way to get around. Europcar and Avis both operate at Guernsey Airport, but other companies such as Value Rent a Car and National are available in the centre of Saint Peter Port and in other parts of the main island.

Driving

Driving in Guernsey requires some degree of care because the roads are narrow and are sometimes governed by special rules. However, self-drive is the best way to explore the islands. Companies like Hertz, Avis, Europcar and Easycar all operate in Guernsey, but visitors should compare car hire prior to travel to select the right vehicle at the best price.

Things To See and Do

This main island is full of attractions, and the best way to discover them is by car. Castle Cornet and Guernsey Aquarium are both less than three miles from the centre of Saint Peter Port, as is Hauteville House. There are also many outdoor activities to try all over Guernsey including kayaking and rock climbing. In addition, there are many beautiful beaches, ancient monuments and interesting coves, some of which are only reachable by car.

Best Time To Visit

Guernsey's peak season for tourism spans June and July, when the weather is at its best. Summer temperatures range between 20 and 25°C, and it is during summer when the days are at their longest, ensuring that visitors will get the most out of their stay during this time. This is also the best time to go on puffin watching trips to the island of Herm. However, the spring period is worth considering if you dislike crowds as it is generally dry and the temperatures are only slightly cooler than those in peak season.
