What do I need to do when picking up a car?

To pick up your car, you will need your voucher, passport, driver's license and a credit card. It is very important that your driver's license and credit card are in the same name as the main driver. Keep in mind that the local rental company will reserve a certain amount on your credit card as a deposit. This requires the PIN code for your credit card. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.

Everything was very straightforward, I was asked to buy additional insurance by Avis for breakdown etc, so it would have been useful to understand this wasn't included in the quoted price - if it was stated it wasn't obvious. It would be useful for you or the rental companies to provide more information on how pick up and drop offs work at the specific airports. Finding the drop off place a San Francisco was not great, as the address stated and google maps puts them in slightly different places - and the attendant joked that finding the garage wasn't easy.

Why you are tempted to go to Des Moines is not a thing of wonder. For the last 3,000 years, it has been inhabited by people who, like you, believe the city is a good place to stay or travel in. According to archeologists, inhabitants have occupied the region as early back as the prehistoric age. In 1300 to 1700 AD, Des Moines is believed to have been the dwelling of early Indian tribes. This is further evidenced by the American Indian mounds found in the city.

More than the prehistoric traces of existence in the city are the many other important landmarks in the city. This includes the ruins of a fort that was constructed by Captain James Allen back in the mid-1800s. By the 20th century, the town underwent a project called City Beautiful. The aim of this project was to create more structures, following a great flood that submerged most of the land in 1850. Now, these structures stand proudly in the city, and are worth your visit. They include the City Hall, the Des Moines Public Library and the many fountains along the riverbank.
